During the last half century, even if the institution was nationalised, the collection of the library was constantly enriched, partly from funds made available by the supporting institutions and partly from donations. This means that besides the new books and periodicals, old books have been acquired as well, thus most of the old Romanian editions (published before 1830) have been purchased from antique bookstores. After 1990 the prevalence of ideological directives in the process of acquiring new volumes, has been replaced by new concepts and topics: humanities, history and auxiliary sciences, local history, history of civilization and of course history of books. A large percentage of the funds for new acquisitions is provided by the Teleki Teka Foundation, which is complemented by personal donations as well.
The reference library of the reading room is continuously enriched with new and relevant titles, comprising encyclopaedias, dictionaries and works with the latest scientific results, all available to the readers.
